Irene Bowden Webb
LENOX — Irene Bowden Webb, 95, of Lenox, died Friday, March 21, 2003, at Fellowship Home in Valdosta.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Lenox United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Robinson and the Rev. Al Lewis officiating. Burial followed at Staunton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lenox United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
Born April 20, 1907 in Liberty County, Mrs. Webb was the daughter of John J. Bowden and Eugenia Sullivan Bowden, both deceased. She was a homemaker and lived most of her life in Lenox. She was a member of Lenox United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Webb was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Rudolph Webb, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Jackie W. Daughtrey of Lenox; six grandchildren, Johnny and Kathy Daughtrey, Bem and Debra Daughtrey, Sherry Daughtrey and Joe Hall, all of Lenox; five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home of Adel was in charge of arrangements.
Dowell R. Upshaw
CADWELL — Dowell R. Upshaw, 83, of Cadwell, died Sunday, March 23, 2003.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Neil Wall and the Rev. Greg Lowery will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Upshaw, Don Murkerson, Jeffery Turner, Chad Upshaw, Ethan Upshaw, Madrid Upshaw and Justin Upshaw.
Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
The family will be at the home of Grace and L. F. Murkerson, 3191 Hwy 117, Cadwell, and will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.
A lifetime resident of Laurens County, Mr. Upshaw was the son of A. Elisha Upshaw and Minnie Lane Upshaw, both deceased. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bond Upshaw, and a son-in-law, Wayne Turner.
Mr. Upshaw was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was a farmer.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Augustus and Diane Upshaw of Tifton, Edwin “Roho” and Gwen Upshaw and Donnie and Marilyn Upshaw, all of Cadwell; two daughter and one son-in-law, Grace and L. F. Murkerson of Cadwell and Carolyn Turner of Jeffersonville; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Oreta Garnto of Statesboro.
Townsend Brothers Funeral Home Inc. in Dublin is in charge of arrangements.
Forrest Clayton Pate
CHULA — Forrest Clayton Pate, 75, of Chula, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, following a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Mount Zion Baptist Church. The Rev. Larry Layfield and the Rev. Mark Sickling will officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clay Pate, Stacy Winslett, Wilt Jones, Alex Sumner, Wilton Jones, Curtis Day, Billy Pate and Curtis Woodard.
Leroy Saylor and Mike Willis will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Born Oct. 2, 1927, in Turner County, Mr. Pate was the son of Charlie Pate and Leila Britt Pate, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Pate was retired from the University of Georgia Animal Science after 30 years of service and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula.
A resident of Tifton and Chula most of his life, he was also an avid coon hunter and enjoyed raising chickens.
Mr. Pate is survived by his wife, Mamie L. Pate of Chula; one son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Gwen Pate of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Anne and Curtis Day of Alabama and Judy and Wilton Jones of Tifton; one brother, J. W. Pate of Tifton; his grandchildren, Dona and Alex Sumner, Wilt and Jessica Jones, Rayna and Stacy Winslett and Clay and Krista Pate; and his great-grandchildren, Alexis and Eli Sumner, Harlee and Joplin Jones, Cody and Jake Winslett, Ariel Pitts and Brian Tomko.
Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
Henry Arnold Belflower
TIFTON — Henry Arnold Belflower, 82, of Tifton, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Tift Health Care.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. The Rev. Dan Eidson will officiate. Burial will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Sidney Roberson, Terrell Roberson, Kirby Ireland, Ferrell Roberts, Everette Collier and Johnny Bradford.
The Men’s II Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Chula will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors, Tiftarea Chapel.
Born Sept. 26, 1920, in Tifton, Mr. Belflower was the son of Joseph Simeon Belflower and Creola Dewhart Baker Belflower, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel Martin Belflower, four brothers and five sisters.
A lifetime resident of Tift County, Mr. Belflower was a retired farmer, carpenter and locksmith for ABAC. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Chula and a former member of The Brighton Hunting Club.
Mr. Belflower was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Self Belflower of Tifton; two sons, James Self and John Self, both of Tifton; one daughter, Carolyn Hagan of Ellijay; two sisters, Margaret Shilling of Cortland, Ohio, and Sarah Fletcher of Lakeland, Fla.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
