Volleyball to play Saturday at 3 p.m.

TIFTON — Tift County volleyball will continue its season Saturday, hosting Harrison in the second round of the state tournament at 3 p.m. Tickets are $8 each.

The Lady Devils (32-3) won their first ever state tournament match Tuesday with a 3-0 win over South Gwinnett.

Harrison will present a challenge.

The Lady Hoyas a three-time state champions, including back-to-back wins in 2016-17. Harrison (19-15) defeated McEachern in the first round, 25-22, 25-11 and 25-11. They were quarterfinalists a year ago.

Saturday’s winner advances to the quarterfinals, against either Alpharetta or Norcross. Should Tift win, the match would take place in Tifton, tentatively set by the Georgia High School Association on Oct. 27.

Tift advanced to the second round with set wins of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-9. They were not the only Region 1-7A to win Tuesday. Lowndes won its first ever state match, edging Brookwood, 3-2. The Vikettes travel to take on Walton in the second round. Colquitt County and Camden County both lost first round matches.
