ATLANTA — Tift County has a number of swimmers that will compete in the state finals today at Georgia Tech, according to results posted by the Georgia High School Swim Coaches Association (http://www.ghssca.com/).

Competition began Friday, with everyone competing in preliminaries. A top 30 time guarantees a shot to swim in the championship round. 

Qualifying were, with preliminary place in parentheses:

Girls 200 freestyle: Eden Troxell (11th)

Girls 200 individual medley: Ainsley Toews (20th)

Boys 50 freestyle: J.D. Bengston (12th)

Girls 50 freestyle: Cason Johnston (27th)

Boys 100 butterfly: Beau Bengston (5th)

Boys 100 freestyle: J.D. Bengston (14th)

Girls 500 freestyle: Troxell (5th)

Boys 200 freestyle relay: Beau Bengston, J.D. Bengston, Hayden Roberts and Dylan Coker (25th)

Girls 200 freestyle relay: Toews, Troxell, Karoline Ponder and Johnston (19th)

Boys 100 backstroke: Beau Bengston (9th)

Girls 100 breaststroke: Toews (30th)

Boys 400 freestyle relay: Beau Bengston, J.D. Bengston, Roberts and Coker (23rd)

Girls 400 freestyle relay: Toews, Ponder, Troxell and Johnston (18th)

The swimming and diving tournament kicked off Thursday with the diving portion.

Emma Bryan finished second with a score of 508.1. This is the freshman’s first ever state championship meet.
