TIFTON — Tift County split volleyball matches Tuesday with Thomasville and Sherwood Christian.

Tift won its fifth match of the year to start the day, defeating Thomasville in straight sets. Sherwood Christian won the nightcap in three sets.

Thomasville scored the first two points of the opener before the Lady Devils settled in. Chayla Lopez was the first to serve and with help from Heather Wells, they went up 3-2. Though they briefly trailed Thomasville again, Wells struck again, starting a rally for the locals.

Rebecca Jinright served the Lady Devils well and they had a 24-15 lead before the visitors scored again. Cali Conner finished off the Lady Bulldogs for a 25-16 victory.

Tift never trailed in the second set, jumping out to a 6-0 advantage. Thomasville cut it to 6-3, but never got any closer. Jinright had an ace for Tift to go up 22-12. The final score was 25-15.

According to scores posted on MaxPreps, the Lady Devils took the first set against Sherwood, 25-23. All three sets were close. Sherwood won the second, 25-22, before winning both the third set and the match, 15-12.

The locals were scheduled to travel to Appling County Thursday to play Appling and Liberty counties. They travel to Lowndes Saturday for the first region meet of the season.
