TIFTON — Tift County sophomore pitcher Rachel Segers led the Lady Devils to a 12-4 victory over the Valdosta Lady Wildcats in a Region 1-AAAAA softball game played in Valdosta Tuesday.

The win means Tift is now 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the 1-AAAAA standings.

Segers pitched a complete game, she struck out 12, walked three, gave up four hits and allowed four runs, only two of which were earned.

The sophomore was also 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles.

Kelly Dill was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Krysten Mangham was 4-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.

Jessi Brooks was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Kelly Redlinger went 3-for-6.

Rebecca Johnson went 2-for-4, while Haley Janousek added one hit and two RBIs.

The news was not as good for the Tift junior varsity as the Lady Devils fell by a 1-0 score.

Kelsey Jones was the hard-luck losing pitcher. She struck out three, walked two, gave up three hits and allowed the one run.

Shabreka Carter had the only hit in the game for the Lady Devils junior varsity.

The Lady Devils will travel to Houston County Thursday for another Region 1-AAAAA encounter. Houston is tied for 10th this week in the Gasports.com Class AAAAA coach’s poll.

Tift will then return home Monday to make up a rainout with Valdosta. The junior varsity will play at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity at approximately 5:45 p.m.
