TIFTON — Tift County has likely wrapped up its regular season sooner than expected. According to Tift Athletic Director Rusty Smith, Salem High School has canceled its Friday game in Tifton.
"The varsity football game, scheduled for Friday, November 20th, against Salem has been cancelled," said the Tift County Athletics Facebook account in a statement. "We were notified today [Tuesday] by their Athletic Department that they are unable to play the game due to COVID issues at their school. #4theT."
Salem, which had started its season in October because of Rockdale County Schools' coronavirus restrictions, had a 1-4 record after a loss last Friday to Lithonia. The Conyers-based school had beaten county rival Rockdale County in a game, but had combined for only six points in its four other games.
If the cancelation marks the end of Tift County's regular season, the Blue Devils, who finished fourth in Region 1-7A, will start state on Nov. 27 at Grayson.
