TIFTON — Tiftarea Academy’s Pool Panthers won individually and they won as a team Wednesday in a home swim meet at the Tiftarea YMCA.

It was total domination for the Panthers, who finished with more points than the other three teams combined. Tiftarea scored 91 points, 52 ahead of Southland Academy.

The Lady Panthers earned 62 points to the 55 from Ben Hill Middle. Valwood and Deerfield-Windsor also participated.

Tiftarea started with a win in the boys 200 medley relay. Individual first places came from Jase Hendricks in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, Hallie Haggard in the 500 freestyle and John Michael White in the 100 backstroke. The boys 200 freestyle relay team also produced a victory.

Head coach Cindy Harbort announced that several swimmers have already made GISA state cuts.

 

Lexi Connell and Gigi Kendrick both qualified for the 50 freestyle. Connell has added the 100 freestyle and Kendrick, the 500 freestyle. Haggard is going to state in the 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Alexa Maag joins her in the 100 freestyle and will be in the 100 breaststroke.

 

Hendricks has qualified in the 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke. Logan Floyd will be going to state in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle. Brandon Maag qualified in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, with Dylan Harbort and John Robert Walker both qualifying in the 50 freestyle. White is a state qualifier in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke.

 

Other Panthers and Lady Panthers scoring points Wednesday were:

Girls 200 medley relay: 3rd and 4th.

Boys 200 freestyle: Hendricks (3rd).

Girls 200 freestyle: Lily Rogers (4th).

Boys 200 individual medley: Floyd (2nd).

Boys 50 freestyle: Maag (2nd) and Harbort (5th).

Boys 100 freestyle: Maag (3rd) and Floyd (5th).

Girls 100 freestyle: Haggard (4th).

Girls 500 freestyle: Kendrick (2nd).

Girls 200 freestyle relay: 2nd and 4th.

Boys 100 backstroke: Hendricks (2nd) and Lars Sims (4th).

Boys 100 breaststroke: Maag (2nd), White (3rd) and Floyd (4th).

Girls 100 breaststroke: Maag (2nd), Connell (3rd) and Haggard (4th).

Tiftarea’s next varsity meet is scheduled for Dec. 11, hosted by Ware County High. The middle school team will be in action a day sooner, Dec. 10, also in Waycross.

The middle school will host its own meet at the Tiftarea YMCA Jan. 5.
