ENIGMA — The Outdoor Adventure Day and the National Wild Turkey Federation “J.A.K.E.S. Day” event at Paradise Public Fishing Area (PFA) is coming Sept. 28.
This event is held to celebrate the 48th Annual National Hunting and Fishing Day, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division.
Activities will include an adult-child (age 15 or under) fishing event at Lakes Cup and Saucer, as well as instructional largemouth bass fishing excursions for teens in Lake Bowl (boat and gear are provided, reservation required- call 912-285-6094), DNR archery range, a fishing simulator sponsored by the Georgia Hunting and Fishing Federation, BB gun ranges sponsored by the Georgia Hunter Education Association and the Tift Area 4-H, skeet range using DNR provided 20-gauge shotguns, GA Forestry commissions equipment, and many more wildlife-related exhibits. No fishing license is required on this day.
Other things to see and do include a casting contest hosted by the Tifton Bassbusters, a search and rescue dog demonstration with the DNR Law Enforcement Division K-9 unit, the ABAC Forestry Wildlife Exhibit, Bouncy houses provided by the Mell Baptist Association and a free lunch provided by the National Wild Turkey Federation.
Fishing activities begin at 7:30 a.m., registration begins at 9 a.m., all other venues open at 10 a.m. and lunch is at noon. Fishing activities end at noon. The day ends with a prize drawing at 2 p.m. for a .177-caliber pellet rifle and other prizes provided by the National Wild Turkey Federation.
In addition to other events, a free fishing day is offered to all Georgia residents on Sept. 22. On this day, residents do not need a fishing license or a trout license to fish on any public waters in the state including lakes, streams, ponds and PFAs. In addition, residents do not need to possess a Georgia Lands Pass on this day to visit Paradise Public Fishing Area.
Directions to Paradise PFA from Tifton: East on US Highway 82 for 8 miles to Brookfield. Turn right onto Whitley Road and travel approximately 100 yards; take the first left onto Brookfield-Nashville Road and travel 1.5 miles. Entrance to the area is on the left.
From Nashville: Take the GA-125 (Tifton Hwy) towards Tifton. Follow the signs. Turn right on McMillan Road continue to stop sign. Turn left on Sapp’s Lake Road. Continue approximately 3 miles. Entrance is on the right.
