Batter up: Marlowe continues to train even without Minor League season

Cade Marlowe hits for the Everett AquaSox in 2019.

SEATTLE — Cade Marlowe is increasingly becoming a household name in the Seattle Mariners chain.

Marlowe, who plays for Low-A Modesto (Calif.), is now No. 30 in Major League Baseball’s ranking of Minor League prospects in the Mariners’ chain. The list estimates Marlowe will make the Big League club in 2023.

In Modesto, Marlowe was hitting .290 through Sunday. He slugged a homer on that day against the Fresno Grizzlies, his fifth of the season. He has stolen four bases this month and has 11 on the season.

The county’s other Minor League prospect, Connor Thomas, continues his work with the AAA Memphis Redbirds. Thomas pitched 3 2/3 frames against the Gwinnett Stripers in a no-decision.

Thomas is in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He was promoted from Class AA to AAA in late May.
