A pair of local fastpitch softball players were recently named to play in the GACA North-South All-Star games.

Berrien High’s Laura Bradford and Irwin County’s Caitlin Ethridge were selected and will be a part of the 14-player South roster.

Bradford helped lead the Rebellettes to the Class AA State Finals in Columbus this past season. Berrien finished the year ranked eighth in the state coach’s poll.

For the 25-5 Berrien squad in 2005, Bradford batted .366 with 33 runs scored, seven doubles, four triples, three home runs and 42 RBIs. She had an on-base percentage of .433, a slugging percentage of .624 and was 20-for-22 in stolen bases.

“Laura was a big part of our team for the last three years,” Berrien High head coach Michelle Jones said of the senior.

Ethridge was also a big part of the success of the Lady Indians of Irwin County over the past three years.

The senior helped Irwin win its’ third Region 2-AA title in a row this past season.

Lining up as a catcher and an outfielder, Ethridge batted . 432, scored 23 runs, hit nine doubles, one triple and one home run. She also knocked in 22 runs, had an on-base percentage of .500, a slugging percentage of .622 and stole 20 bases.

“She can play any position well,” Irwin head coach Franklin Sumner said of Ethridge.

Bradford and Ethridge will play in the North-South games on June 14 in Kennesaw.
