The Tiftarea Academy Lady Panthers dropped two games in a doubleheader Saturday against Pinewood in Albany.

Pinewood won the first game 7-0 and then took the second 12-2 in six innings.

Tiftarea (4-8) was no-hit in the first game but kept the game close for most the game with strong pitching. Pinewood scored one run in the second inning, and the score remained 1-0 until the sixth.

“The bottom fell out in the top of the sixth,” said Tiftarea head coach Billy Ruis. “They scored six more.

“They’re a good team. The took advantage of a couple of breaks they got. That’s what good teams do.”

In the second game, the Lady Panthers managed three hits, but still could not overcome the GISA Class AAA school. Tiftarea is a Class AA school.

Ruis said that in both games his team swung the bat well, but never got any lucky breaks.

“We put the bat on the ball, we just couldn’t get any hits,” he said.

Pinewood scored three in the top of the first and then nine runs in the third to account for all its scoring. Tiftarea scored two runs in the sixth.

Tiftarea’s hits came from Courtney Albritton, Brittany Bradley and Rachel Haynes.

“We understand that we’re improving, but we’ve still got to get better,” Ruis said. “We still feel like we’ve got a lot of pride in what we do.”

The Lady Panthers play again at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Chula against Southwest Georgia Academy.
