Golf teams qualify for state tournament

Tate Greer was Area 1’s low medalist Monday. His 72 led all other golfers and almost directed TIft County’s Blue Devils to a region and area championship. They earned second after a playoff against Lowndes.

COLUMBUS — The Georgia High School Golf Coaches Association (GHSGCA) have announced their end-of-season awards and Tift County is counted among the honors.

Tift’s Tate Greer merited All-State for Class AAAAAAA.

At the 2019 state tournament, at Hamilton Mill, Greer finished in the top 25 individually. His +2 74 on the final day of competition was just four strokes behind Walton’s Matthew Feste, who won the tournament. Greer played in a state tournament in each of his four years of high school.

Earlier, in May 2019, Greer earned low medalist with a 72 at the area tournament, which was held at Kinderlou Forest in Valdosta.

Greer was the only golfer from outside metro Atlanta to earn a spot on the boys team in Class AAAAAAA. Lowndes’ Ebby Somers made honorable mention on the girls team for the classification.
