LEESBURG — Emily Golden ran away with a victory for the Tift County Lady Devils Saturday at the Lee County Invitational cross country meet.
Golden finished the course in 19:42, 64 seconds ahead of second place. Both Tift County and Tiftarea Academy participated at the meet.
Paced by Yamari Snow, the Blue Devils were eighth overall in boys competition, according to results on MileSplit GA. Snow ran in 19:39 for 28th place. Others counting toward the Tift total were Bryce Stephens (34th, 19:45), Landon Johnson (49th, 20:15), Clayton Walker (65th, 20:54) and Will Jones (67th, 21:04).
With Golden’s commanding performance, Tift was sixth as a team. Gwyneth Conner and Savannah Miller were 27th and 28th, respectively, with times of 24:37 and 24:45. Rebekah Larger (44th, 26:18) and Madeline Perrin (53rd, 26:37) rounded out those counting towards the team’s score.
Tiftarea’s top female runner was Caroline Barksdale, whose time of 24:58 gave her 31st place. Other Lady Panthers running were Ann Catherine Walker and Whitney Hancock. Reed Turner, Ty Cowan, Marshall Corkern, Holt Dixon, Rhett Reed and Wyatt Thompson ran for the Panthers.
In middle school competition, Blair Golden led the way for Tift County. He took second place in 12:11.
Jude Bailey was the next fastest runner for the area. The Tiftarea athlete ran in seventh place in 13:12. Others in the top 50 were Dawson McMillan (Tift), Ethan Reid (Tiftarea) and Russ Benton (Tift). Middle school girls in the top 50 were Grayson Anne Day (Tift), Ava Wilson (Tift), Amanda Tovar (Tift), Peyton Cleghorn (Tiftarea) and Emma Grace Turner (Tift).
