TIFTON -- The Eighth Street Lady Devils softball team swept Irwin County, 5-1 and 16-3, Wednesday afternoon at the Northeast Campus field.
In the first game, Tift got a no-hitter from pitcher Rachel Segers. She allowed only one run, struck out four and walked five. She was also 1-for-2 with an inside-the-park home run.
Jena Parrish, Samantha Robertson, JuleeBeth Dunn and Brittany Fore also each added a hit for the Lady Devil cause.
In game two against Irwin, Segers got her second win. She allowed two hits, three runs, struck out six and walked three. She was also 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Adding two hits each were Robertson, Fore, Kendall Couch and Rebecca Johnson.
Eighth Street (8-3-1) will face Turner County at 10 tomorrow morning in Ashburn.
This past weekend in Leesburg, the Lady Devils finished fourth out of eight teams in the Lee County Invitational Tournament.
Segers got the win in game one, a 23-0 victory over Pulaski County.
Heather McGuire (two doubles) and Couch each had three hits in the game for Eighth Street.
In game two, the Lady Devils lost to Berrien, 6-1, in five innings.
Robertson, Johnson, Kelly Redlinger and Segers each had a hit in that game for Eighth Street.
Segers again got the victory in game three, 15-4, over Colquitt County
Robertson had two hits against Colquitt.
In the final game of the tournament, Eighth Street lost to Thomas County Central, 3-2.
Segers got the loss, even though she struck out six and walked three.
Robertson and Dunn each went 2-for-3 in the game for the Lady Devils.
