After winning their first two games this season via shutouts, the Tift County Blue Devils finally allowed runs Saturday in a doubleheader at Westside (Macon). However, the Devils still remained unbeaten on the 2006 baseball season with 3-1 and 12-3 victories.

“It was two good games for us,” Tift head coach Chuck Beale said.

In game one, Austin Smith got the pitching win for the Devils. He went six innings, struck out five, gave up five hits and allowed one earned run. Jacob Stinson got the save. He pitched one inning, struck out one and walked one.

Charlie Edwards led the Devils at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance. He knocked in all three Tift runs with a home run and a double.

Scott Shuman got the win in game two. He pitched five innings, struck out 12, gave up five hits and allowed one earned run.

Israel Troupe was 2-for-5 with three RBIs in that game, while Chance Veazey was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Tift will be back at home Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game against Thomasville.
