TIFTON — CHESS Academy kept moving forward Tuesday night, taking a close contest from Open Bible, 47-44, at home.

The Knights only had four players score against OBC, but it was enough. Drew Johnson scored a season-best 21 points, with Jentzen Norman adding 11 more. Nick Barefield (8 points) and Josiah Bishoff (7) completed scoring for CHESS.

Johnson scored 13 points in the fourth and final quarter. They were needed as Open Bible entered the period with a 32-28 lead. Johnson’s total included a pair of three-pointers and sinking 3 of 4 at the free throw line.

Logan Curry scored 17 points for Open Bible. Tristen Curry netted 10.

Earlier this season, CHESS won games over Colquitt Christian Academy, 49-29, on Nov. 11 and over Community Christian of Adel, 58-30 on Nov. 9.

In Adel, Josiah Bishoff let up the scoreboard for 23 points, 17 in the first half. Drew Johnson supplied 13 points and Cameron Manders added 6 to the total. Reid McPherson led Community with 8 points.

The Knights were up 32-11 at halftime.

Against Colquitt Christian, the halftime score was 29-8 before CHESS eased off the gas.

Bishoff led in scoring again, pumping in 15 points. Johnson contributed 11 to the cause and Conner Bloodworth scored 7.

CHESS has a rematch against Open Bible scheduled in Valdosta Nov. 30. Home games in December see them host Community Christian Dec. 2 at First United Methodist and Georgia Christian Dec. 6 at First Baptist.

Colquitt Christian is in Dec. 7 at First United Methodist with Corinth (Fla.) coming in Dec. 17 at First Baptist.
