Coach: Scott Horten (11th year)
Last year's record: 3-7
Top players: Arthur Green, Milton Williams, Eric Nestale, Arthur Moses, Leon Goldware, Linval Lewis, Bryon Rouse
Season outlook: Only seven starters return from last year's team for coach Scott Horten. One of those players is offensive guard Arthur Green (6-foot-3, 247), who is considered the team's one college prospect. Two other linemen, Milton Williams (5-foot-9, 214) and Eric Nestale (5-foot-10, 234), will give the Indians a veteran presence up front. Cornerback Byron Rouse, who had four interceptions last season, also returns to lead the defense.
Coach: Ryan Branch (4th year)
Last year's record: 8-3-1 (lost in second round of Class AA playoffs to Early County)
Top players: Micah Edwards, Joseph Huewitt, Ron Neloms, Jaboa Dixon, Alex Wright, Brett West
Season outlook: The Trojans move from Region 2-AA to Region 1-AA this season. Coached by former Tift County Blue Devil Ryan Branch, the Trojans have a number of players returning from last year's team that made it to the second round of the state playoffs. Among the players back are seniors, quarterback/cornerback Micah Edwards, wide receiver/free safety Joseph Huewitt and lineman Ron Neloms; as well as juniors, linebacker Jaboa Dixon, lineman Alex Wright and lineman Brett West. Brooks is not expected to have much size, Wright is one of the biggest players at 235 pounds. However, the Trojans should be an athletic team. "We are expecting the best from all who play for us," said Branch.
Coach: Trey Woolf (4th year)
Last year's record: 12-1 (lost in quarterfinals of Class AA playoffs to Decatur)
Top players: Dan Foster
Season outlook: The Bobcats lost several top players including Auburn University signee Octavious Balkom. However, coach Trey Woolf feels like Dan Foster could be just as good at the linebacker position. While Foster will lead the defense, Woolf is looking at several players to provide yardage on offense. Only two starters return on offense from last year's team.
Coach: Elliott Walker (3rd year)
Last year's record: 9-3 (lost in second round of Class AA playoffs to Charlton County)
Top players: Tramayel Jones, Quentin Freeman
Season outlook: Tramayel Jones and Quentin Freeman will lead the way on offense for the Eagles. However, the Mitchell-Baker defense lost a lot of players from last year's 9-3 squad.
Coach: Tommy Welch (5th year)
Last year's record: 7-5 (lost in second round of Class AAA playoffs to Laney)
Top players: Clay Hodges, Chris Burkes, Joseph Dunbar
Season outlook: The Bulldogs lost a massive senior class, including both starting running backs and both starting wide receivers. They do return quarterback Clay Hodges (6-foot-1, 180) and a veteran line led by college prospect Joseph Dunbar (6-foot, 250). Young players will have to step up for the Bulldogs to be successful this season.
