I was so saddened when I heard of the passing of Mr. George Bailey. He brought smiles to the faces of so many mothers and grandmothers over the years. A simple act of kindness from a total stranger, asking nothing in return for his kindness. He took the time and his money to do this for so many people over the years. He was a shining example to the rest of us that we can all do something kind for our neighbors just for the joy of making others smile. His name fit him, because in the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life,” Jimmy Stewart was also a selfless man that tried to help all his neighbors.
I feel this world was a much better place with him here, and he will be sorely missed. I’m sure his family will miss him, but I think this town will miss him also.
I feel a simple thank-you isn’t quite enough. My hope is that everyone who he touched will write his family and have it laminated so that through the years they will have a similar reminder of what his act of kindness meant to us all.
God bless you, Mr. Bailey and family.
