I suddenly realized I have been in Tifton seven months and had not been visited by any of my children. It then dawned on me that I had not invited them either! So, I invited my daughter from Cairo to come over with her five-year-old twins.
Told her to pass Lake Say-Hi, right on U.S. 82 and left on 41/ Main, enjoy seeing downtown, right at the Park and left on Old Ocilla. I forgot to warn her of the potholes at Old Ocilla and John Orr, which she said almost took out the front end of her Range Rover. I instructed her in future visits to do the Ocilla/Orr shimmy, “right, left, straight” like I have been doing for seven months! Little Caesars’ Pizza saved the day for the twins and Y on Carpenter Road allowed my daughter to work out while grandmother babysat. They left with wonderful memories of Tifton.
My second daughter was to drive from North Florida to her home in Mooresville, NC with her two daughters. I suggested they overnight here and see our fine city and ABAC. They did so and were impressed with a closer look at ABAC than from the interstate. They also thoroughly enjoyed dinner (PIZZA) at 41 and Main.
The third daughter? Works for a law firm in Ponte Vedra. Dates a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officer and just wants me to “come see her.” Perhaps if I offer to do her laundry and iron if she comes to Tifton to visit, I will have hit 100 percent.
Anyway, now that two-thirds of my children have found me, my new home is more of a home, though being a mother transcends all! Thanks, Tifton, for impressing my children.
