TIFTON — With Tifton's general and special elections opening in coming weeks, the Tift County Board of Elections and Registration has announced advanced voting times and dates to ensure all residents of Tifton are able to vote.
Tifton residents will be able to participate in voting as early as Oct. 12, with the voting period ending Oct. 29.
Residents will be able to vote during this period any time between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. In addition, voting will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 and 23, to accommodate residents who may be unable to find time to vote during the week, election officials said.
Election Day is Nov. 2.
The positions that will be voted on are seats on the Tifton City Council; candidates for these positions qualified in August. District 1 has only one qualifying candidate, Denny Joshua Reynolds, while District 3 has three: Lester L. Cromer, Jr., Sherrod Thompson and the incumbent Johnny Terrell, who is also a write-in.
All precincts will be open for a countywide referendum from the Tift County Board of Education on the special purpose local option sales tax.
Voters will also be allowed to mail in their ballots and can apply by completing an application on the Georgia My Voter Page or by contacting the Tift County Elections Office.
On Election Day, voting will begin at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Residents of Tifton may participate in advanced voting at the Elections Office, 222 Chestnut Ave., Building B. For more information or questions about elections, contact the elections office, (229) 386-7915.
