TIFTON — One man has been arrested in connection with an attempted kidnapping, according to a press release from the Tift County Sheriff’s Office.
Christopher Edward Baker, 48, of Tifton was arrested and charged with one count of criminal trespass and two counts of criminal attempt with the intent to commit the offense of kidnapping. Baker is currently being housed in the Tift County Jail.
TCSO received a call in reference to suspicious activity on Friday, Oct. 4, according to the TCSO release. On Monday, Oct. 7, a second report of suspicious activity and one report of criminal trespass were also filed with the agency.
"A Tift County Schools principal and staff responded to an incident during afternoon pickup and followed all system protocols including notifying law enforcement," according to a statement from Tift County Schools.
As a result of an investigation into the complaints, Baker was identified as a person of interest and arrested late Tuesday afternoon, the release states.
The release states that Tift County Sheriff Gene Scarbrough wants to thank the public for their help.
