TIFTON — The Tift Shotgun Team recently completed its 2020 season by competing in the Scholastic Clay Target Program National Virtual Championship.
This year, due to COVID-19, the SCTP held both an on-site national championship in Ohio and a virtual national championship, organizers said in a statement.
The Tift team chose to participate in the virtual competition.
From July 11-18, the team competed in the events of skeet, trap and double skeet by shooting at a local course and submitting scores online. Each event is 200 shots.
"This was the team’s third year of competitive shooting and the first national competition event," team representatives said.
Out of 10 athletes, four participated on the national competition team: Celiabeth Branch, Jake Turner, Dylan Bullington, and Josie Bullington.
In the double skeet event, Branch placed fifth in the ladies senior/varsity class and Bullington placed fourth in the men intermediate/entry level class.
The team includes a mixture of students from public, private and home schools in grades 5-12.
The team's corporate sponsors include Skip Hill and Associates, Kelley Manufacturing Co., Griffin Ford, Hall, Booth and Smith, South Georgia Banking Company, Ameris Bank, Lasseter Tractor, South Georgia Food Service and Prince Chevrolet.
