TIFTON — Several Tift County farmers brought home awards from the 13th Annual Georgia Cotton Commission Meeting and UGA Cotton Production Workshop on Jan. 29.

Brian and Ken Ponder were awarded the Georgia Quality Cotton Region 3: 1,000+ Acres 2019 Crop Winner award for growers and Randall Webb was awarded the Georgia Quality Cotton Region 3: Less than 500 Acres 2019 Crop Winner award for growers.

Omega Gin Company was awarded the Georgia Quality Cotton Region 3 award for ginners for both the “Less than 500 Acres” category and the “Greater than 1,000 Acres” category.

The meeting featured breakout sessions where attendees learned about the latest technical production strategies from the researchers whose projects are funded by the commission’s research program. The Georgia Cotton Commission Annual Meeting followed the breakout sessions and featured speakers from several industry organizations.

The program speakers were Kent Fountain, vice chairman of the National Cotton Council of America; Melissa Bastos, director of market research for Cotton Incorporated; and Hank Reichle, president & CEO of Staplcotn.
