ATHENS — Tift County 4-H’ers participated in the State 4-H Poultry Judging Contest on May 3 in Athens.
Poultry judging provides an opportunity for 4-H’ers to learn about live birds and the basis of grade and quality of poultry products.
The contests consists of six different grading classes including live birds, exterior quality of eggs, interior quality of eggs by candling, broken-out Quality, ready-to-cook poultry and identification of ready to cook poultry.
The Tift County team was made up of 4-H’ers: Dana Wells, Sydney Pridgon, Seth Jones and Lydia Connell. They placed first in the state as a team.
Pridgon earned high individual overall, Jones earned second high individual and Wells earned 8th high individual.
They will return to Louisville, Kentucky for the National Poultry Judging Competition in November.
This team is coached by volunteer leader Alexis Floyd and 4-H agent, Ashley Carroll along with many other volunteer teachers from the community.
