TIFTON — An accident at the intersection of Hwy 82 and Commerce Way at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 21 left three people injured.
According to Trooper C. Poore with the Georgia State Patrol, a call came out at approximately 1:30 p.m. about a reckless driver heading north on Interstate 75 in a silver Saturn Aura.
Poore said that a deputy with the Tift County Sheriff’s Office clocked the Saturn going 113 on 75 and initiated a traffic stop.
When the deputy questioned the female driver, whose name is being withheld at this time, about why she was speeding, she said she was in pain and trying to get to the hospital.
According to Poore, when the deputy told the driver he was going to call for an ambulance to take her to the hospital, she took of in her car.
A short time later, an officer with the Tifton Police Department saw the Saturn make a traffic violation while traveling west on 82 and attempted to initiate a stop.
Poore said that the Saturn turned into a parking lot, struck a parked vehicle, then got back out onto 82 heading east.
When the Saturn reached the intersection of 82 and Commerce Way, the driver ran the red light and collided with a dark grey Dodge Charger that was traveling north on Commerce Way.
The driver and passenger of the Charger were both transported to Tift Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Saturn was also transported to the hospital.
Poore said that the driver of the Saturn will be facing seven charges: running a red light, not wearing a seatbelt, driving on cancelled registration, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, driving with no proof on insurance and hit and run.
