TIFTON — A former Tift County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested and charged with burglary and theft, according to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation press release.
Ollin “Rocky” Carter, 55, was arrested on Sept. 19 for the offenses of violation of oath of office; burglary in the 2nd degree; and theft by taking, according to the release.
Prior to his arrest, Carter resigned from the Tift County Sheriff’s Office.
He worked with the TCSO for 20 years, according to David Haire, TCSO public information officer.
On Sept. 16, Tift County Sheriff Gene Scarbrough requested the GBI to investigate a complaint he received from a Tift County citizen alleging theft by a Tift County deputy from an automotive body shop in the 500 block of East Second Street, the release states.
After conducting interviews with the complainant and witnesses, Carter was arrested and booked into the Tift County Jail, the release states.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation, according to the release.
Once complete, it will be turned over to the Tift Judicial District Attorney’s Office for prosecution, the release states.
