TIFTON — Friday, Aug. 23 was the last day to qualify to run in the Nov. 5 local elections.
Milton “M. Jay” Hall Jr. qualified to run for Tifton’s District 4 city council seat against incumbent Frank Sayles Jr., who has served one term in office.
Current Mayor Julie Smith and city council member for District 2 Jack Folk qualified to hold on to their seats. Both are running unopposed.
Incumbent Post 1 council member Jamie Lavender, Post 3 council member Malcolm Kelley and Post 5 council member Shirley Strawter are running unopposed for their seats.
Omega has two seats up for reelection: the office of mayor, which is currently held by Ray Hunt, Jr., and the city council seat representing Post 5, which is currently held by Ernest Harris. Both have qualified for the election.
Chuck White has also qualified to run for mayor and Delonda Holly Allen has also qualified to run for Post 5.
The last day to register to vote this year is Oct. 7. Early voting starts Oct. 15 and runs through Nov. 1. Election day is Nov. 5.
