TIFTON — With the 2021-22 school year nearing, Phillipsburg residents gave back to students.
On July 10, they hosted the Second Annual Phillipsburg Back to School Community Day. Students were provided with free food, book bags, school supplies, and school uniforms.
Community organizers Shorofsky Horton and Carlos Slade said that the focus was “Reach one, Teach One.” The participants enjoyed bounce inflatables and ice cream. Some won bicycles, air pods, basketballs and a basketball goal.
The organizers created a scholarship in honor of a south Tiftonite, Lucretia Perry, who recently passed away from cancer. As an honor to her six kids that were left behind, organizers donated $1,000 to assist with back to school expenses.
“We know the struggles of many of our fellow citizens, so we wanted to give back to our community,” said organizer Torrence Billings.
