It’s possible a tropical cyclone could develop in the Gult of Mexico this week, according to the National Weather Service.
A cyclone can mean any tropical system, including a tropical depression, tropical storm or a hurricane.
NWS currently estimates an 80 percent chance of tropical system development.
Regardless of whether or not a tropical development forms, widespread heavy rain is expected starting mid-week.
At this early stage, the impact and path of a possible development is unclear.
