TIFTON — Director of Operations Robbie Dasher informed the Tift County Board of Education that the Eighth Street Middle School classroom renovations and the safety and security upgrades have both been completed.

The Tift County Board of Education met for a work session on Oct. 3 and a regular meeting on Oct. 8.

Dasher also informed the board that requests for bids have been put out for the new CTAE facility, the former pre-K center on 12th street and enclosing the baseball batting cages.

Dasher informed the board that, since SPLOST revenue has been higher than projected, the district can move forward with retrofitting all of the school buses in the district with air conditioning. He said that the plan is to have all school buses air conditioned over the next couple of years.

“We’ve got a plan for everybody that rides a bus and every bus in the fleet (to have AC),” said School Superintendent Adam Hathaway.

At the Oct. 8 meeting, the board recognized Senior Jacqavious Clines, who was selected for the United States Senate Youth Program.

The board also recognized two students from Tift County, freshman Kylei Cutts and Junior Karoline Ponder, who were selected to sit on the 2019-2020 State School Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council.
