TIFTON — The 2019 Hometown Holidays celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7 throughout downtown Tifton.
The parade, which will follow the “March of the Toys” theme, will begin at 5 p.m.
Jack and Ann Stone will be the parade grand marshals and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be coming down from the North Pole to bring up the end of the parade and usher in the Christmas season.
The parade will start at 2nd Street and Magnolia Ave, will travel east on 2nd Street, turn left onto Main Street and will end at the corner of 8th Street and Love Avenue near Walgreens.
After the parade, the festival will open up in downtown with free activities such as zip lining, carnival rides and ice skating. There will also be three stages with live entertainment throughout the festival area. The Tift Theatre will be hosting the All That Glitters Dance Troupe from the Carolyn Ellis School of Dance during the festival.
The Lighting of the Christmas Tree will take place at city hall at 7:05 p.m. and the Georgia National Guard will be giving away Christmas toys to children while supplies last.
Vendors will be set up throughout the festival area and downtown shops and restaurants will be open for business as well.
The UGA Candy Cane Express will be taking attendees to see the lights in Fulwood Park during the festival.
The celebration will be kicking off the holiday season.
On Thursday, Dec. 5 the Jingle and Mingle Downtown Christmas Open House and the Downtown Holiday Stroll will take place throughout downtown Tifton. Storefronts will be decorated and shops will be open for holiday shopping.
A mini-Christmas tree display will open on Dec. 5 in city hall. The trees are creations from children in the Tift County schools’ after school program Kids Advocacy Coalition and are displayed in partnership with the Exchange Club of Tifton.
Other events scheduled include the Kiwanis Run for the Kids at 8 a.m. on Sat. Dec. 7.
The run will start near the corner of Forrest Avenue and 4th Street. The entry fee is $20 per adult and $10 per child before Nov. 30 and $25 per adult and $15 per child after Nov. 30. Applications can be obtained by contacting 229-445-1531 or 229-388-2142.
Breakfast with Santa, presented by the Rotary Club of Tifton and the Tift County Recreation department will be on Dec. 7 from 8-11 a.m. at the TCRD gym on Victory Drive.

Tifton First United Methodist Church’s Children’s Musical is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Dec. 8.
First Baptist Church’s Taste of Tifton is scheduled for Dec. 8 at 6 p.m.
Attendees will be treated to a musical presentation and then will be able to sample food from local vendors, all for free.
Northside Baptist Church’s One Starry Night is scheduled for Dec. 13-15 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the church, located at 4605 Murray Ave.
The event is a live-action recreation of Bethlehem during Jesus’ birth.
