A Cartersville man who had previously escaped from jail three times was arrested by local deputies Friday here after he allegedly broke out of jail in North Georgia.

John Craig Manning, 38, of Cartersville, was arrested by Tift and Worth County deputies at an unidentified location near Ty Ty after an investigation by the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force tracked him into South Georgia. According to documents from the Tift County Sheriff’s Office, Manning was served with an escape warrant from Fulton County.

According to the Department of Corrections website, Manning’s record includes 28 offenses spanning the last 20 years, including three counts of escape and one count of attempted escape.

In addition to the escape warrant, deputies charged him with giving a false name and information to law enforcement.

Manning is being held in the Tift County jail pending extradition to Fulton County.

Friday afternoon, four Tift County deputies and Worth County Sheriff Freddie Thompkins served the warrant on Manning.

The details of Manning’s escape were unavailble before presstime.
