Despite the severe weather, no injuries were immediately reported.

Tift County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer David Haire said that deputies were dispatched throughout the county — from Omega to Chula to southern Irwin County — as heavy rains, high winds and hail swept through.

“We’ve got deputies out everywhere,” Haire said standing in his yard in southern Irwin County where trees were also snapped. “I haven’t heard of any injuries, just mainly lines down and trees.”

Emergency crews worked for hours to clear up trees in the roadways and block off roads covered by downed lines.

On I-75, a small commercial truck was flipped over and pinned against the concrete dividing wall in the southbound lane near exit 69.

Tornados were also reported in Worth and Colquitt counties.
