Without fail, this week's Peaches and Kudzu returns to heap praise on some and cast a dubious eye on others.

Showcase peaches to the folks involved at the Sunbelt Agricultural Expo in Moultrie this week. Though numbers were a little down for obvious reasons, it is still the best show of its kind in the country. Tifton always has a major hand in the show and once again, we were well-represented. And we saw many patrons throughout the week in our restaurants, motels and gas stations and that's always a good thing.

Chemical kudzu for the idiots and criminals mailing anthrax around our country. Likewise for any pranksters who are doing the same with fake powders and other substances. We were afraid to think of what the next step in terrorism against our country would be and this is apparently it. We are sure we will get to the bottom of this crisis and that our country and community will see some sort of normalcy before too long.

Peach baskets full of appreciation to those in our community who respond to calls from people who suspect mail they have opened may contain anthrax. Too often we don't give enough credit to firefighters, law enforcement officers and emergency medical personnel who must risk exposing themselves to dangers in an effort to protect us all. Keep up the good work.

Historic peaches to the folks at the Georgia Agrirama and other citizens of Tift County for their new monument honoring Dwight D. Eisenhower for his initiative with the national interstate system. It will add another attraction to the museum of living history and a special peach to our own Eunice Mixon who was instrumental in the idea.

A patch of confusing kudzu to the Georgia High School Association for allowing a rule to stand that just doesn't make sense. We hate to belabor the point, but our Blue Devils were victims to the nonsensical "penetration" overtime rule a little over a week ago. It's not fair to any football team to prepare to play an overtime period that they don't even understand since it only comes up every decade or so. Just change the rule.
