TIFTON -- Fathers and daughters can enjoy fun, food and fellowship at the YMCA's annual Father/Daughter Valentine's Dance Thursday.

The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Leroy Rogers Senior Citizen Center on 2nd Street.

Kevin Angell, YMCA director, said that the idea behind the event is to provide an opportunity for fathers and their daughters to make lasting memories. Angell said that extra efforts are being made this year to make the event extra special.

"We are improving the dance and the dinner will be catered," Angell said. "We have a DJ that will be there for music for dancing."

Tickets for the event are $35 for couples and $15 for each additional child. Even though tickets will be sold at the door, Angell advises anyone planning to attend to call the YMCA at 391-9622 and make reservations. Calling in advance will ensure that every daughter attending will have a corsage, the cost of which is included in the ticket price. The food and photographs of the couples are also included in the ticket price.

Angell said there is no dress code.

"We leave that up to the discretion of the father and the daughter," Angell said. "This is a night where people of the community come together for a common cause. You will see every segment of the population there and it's up to the individual.

"We have seen casual dress up to three-piece suits."

Last year, 112 fathers and daughters attended the event. Angell said Tuesday afternoon that 114 people had already registered.

Angell said any profit above the cost to hold the event goes back to support the YMCA's financial assistance programs and general operations of the center.

"We want this to be two hours of quality time where just the two of them are together and nothing else matters," Angell said.

Each father and daughter will be introduced to the crowd.
