TIFTON – The Tift County Commission on Children and Youth has scheduled the seventh Go Light Up Your World for Wednesday, Oct. 21.
The community-wide event places luminaries around the county to show support for providing a safe and caring environment for children.
The Tift County Board of Commissioners presented TC3Y with a proclamation making Oct. 21 Go Light Up Your World Day in Tifton during its monthly meeting Monday.
Last year during the sixth Go Light Up Your World Day, about 80 participants lined the streets with luminaries.
TC3Y is a nonprofit organization that works with communities on improving the conditions and lives of children. It focuses its efforts on addressing the serious challenges families and children face on a daily basis.
TC3Y is asking businesses, companies, faith-based organizations and anyone else who wishes to participate to light luminaries along the street in front of their properties at 7:30 p.m. and to keep them lit until at least 8:30 p.m.
Lillie McEntyer, the family connections coordinator for TC3Y, encourages participating organizations to have an activity urging youths to make sound decisions in the best interests for their lives.
Though Go Light Up Your World Day does not fall on the same week as National Red Ribbon Week this year, the two events have a close connection. Red Ribbon Week has a campaign to encourage children to stay away from harmful illegal substances and to make good life choices.
TC3Y asks all participants to register their organizations so TC3Y can track how many organizations are participating.
