SAN DIEGO — Hayden Murphy recorded an out on the mound Aug. 22 at Petco Park, doing his part to help the East team pitch a no-hitter in the Perfect Game All-American Classic.
The East took a 9-1 victory in the contest.
Murphy, who normally pitches for Tiftarea Academy, combined with nine other pitchers for the no-no. The eighth pitcher of the night, Murphy came in during the eighth inning. He struck out his first batter with a pitch high and in, then got a long foul fly before being relieved himself.
The East jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first three innings before the West scored its lone run in the sixth. A five-run seventh put the game away.
