TIFTON – A Tift County man was sentenced to two life prison sentences this week for his part in the 2018 robbery and murder of a convenience store owner.
Caleb Day was found guilty on charges of malice murder, felony murder and armed robbery in December during a bench trial before Tift County Superior Court Judge Melanie Cross, according to Tift County District Attorney Bryce Johnson.
Cross sentenced him Tuesday, Feb. 16, to one life sentence for the murder conviction to be followed consecutively by another life sentence for the armed robbery in connection with the July 30, 2018 death and robbery of Eldorado Food Mart owner Akhtar “Oscar” Perveez.
Day was 21 when he was arrested in Adel, Aug. 22, 2018, and was booked in to the Cook County Jail.
Two other suspects were arrested in connection with the case.
Nathaniel Day, 22, of Adel pleaded guilty to felony murder Oct. 28, 2019, in connection to the murder of Perveez just prior to jury selection for his trial, according to Assistant District Attorney J.D. Hart. He was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole.
A third suspect's case has yet to receive a court date.
