Commissioners pass street light tax, OK 911 upgrades

TIFTON – The Tift County Commission wrapped up its regular session in a quick 16-minute meeting but not before passing a new special street light tax district and a much-needed 911 phone system upgrade. 

The street light tax district affects Turnberry Circle and Gleneagle Drive in Commissioner Paul Webb's district. Webb motioned the approval of the tax district with a second from Commissioner Buck Rigdon. The board unanimously approved the measure. 

Tina Gay, director of Tift County E-911, called the current 911 phone system a "dinosaur" during a recent work session. County Manager Jim Carter called it "ancient." 

Commissioners approved an upgrade to the Vesta Phone System.
