TIFTON — What was once the location of two thrift stores at the corner of Third Street and Commerce Way – and even further back, Tifton's first Coca-Cola bottling facility – is now being revamped and revitalized into The Edge Sports Pub and Axe Throwing.

Looking to bring a new experience to Downtown Tifton, the establishment will provide customers with the chance to try their hand at throwing axes or knives in a safe environment while also being offered a fully stocked bar, barbecue and pizza, and music.

The Edge Front View

The Edge has remodeled the exterior of the old building on the corner of Commerce and Third, giving it a fresh new coat of paint to go along with the new establishment.

"I was born and raised here in Tifton, and in the area, there's not a lot to do," said Chip Pate, owner. "You've got to drive out of town to go see a lot of places; I've always wanted a pub, I've always wanted a pizza place and a pub, good burgers, and all. I started watching stuff for a while, for about a year and a half, contemplating on as far as putting axe throwing in Tifton."

Pate planned to open both sides of the business simultaneously, with the axe-throwing section occupying what used to be Danny's Thrift Shop and the pub taking up the space that was Redeemed's old location.

However, an accident involving a car hitting the side of the building set progress on the pub side back several months.

Pate estimated that, depending on how quickly it takes the contractors to obtain a permit for construction, the pub could be anywhere from three to 12 weeks away from opening.

The axe-throwing side of the business, however, was set to open Thursday, Sept. 9.

Pate said he also hopes to open another restaurant right across the street, named Sip-N-Sides Jazz Lounge, to target a different audience and bring what he feels is needed in Tifton.

Described as "more of a date night" establishment, the restaurant will feature a different display of dining options from The Edge, such as a potato bar and charcuteries, as well as live music from dueling pianos, bluegrass, jazz and opportunities for open mic nights.

Development is still underway but Pate said he hopes to have the establishment open as early as December.

Sip-N-Sides Future Location

While the building is currently empty, Chip Pate hopes to make it the home of his next business, Sip-N-Sides, come winter.

The Edge Axe Throwing will be open at 115 E. Third St., Tuesdays through Thursdays from 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Fridays from 11 a.m.-midnight; Saturdays from 11 a.m.-1 a.m.; and Sundays from 1-9 p.m. For questions or more information, contact Pate at (229) 402-0471.
