MID-DAY UPDATE: Former Gov. Roy Barnes wants his old job back and says that as governor he would bring sanity back to the Capitol.
The Mableton Democrat qualified in the governor's race on Wednesday. He says he wants to return to office because he doesn't like what has happened in the eight years that he has been gone and that Georgia is in danger of becoming the laughing stock of the country.
Karen Handel, who was elected secretary of state in 2006 but left before her term ended to seek the Republican nomination for governor, also qualified Wednesday on the Capitol steps.
She touts her public and private record and says what separates her from her opponents — other than her gender — is her conservative, ethical leadership.
