Five people were injured when a woman apparently lost control of the truck she was driving east on U.S. Highway 82 mid-afternoon Friday.
According to Trooper Randy Thomas of Georgia State Patrol Post 13 in Tifton, Tammy Barry was driving and her four daughters were riding with her at the time of the wreck. The girls, Kayleigh, McKenzie, Abigail and Emmeigh, range in age from nine months to nine years.
Thomas said Barry had all of the girls properly restrained and no one was ejected from the vehicle.
“That was nice to hear,” Thomas said.
Thomas said Barry told him she reached down to pick up a baby bottle and by the time she looked back up at the highway, she had lost control.
“The truck struck the embankment and turned counter-clockwise,” Thomas said.
The truck came to rest in a thicket of pine trees and was facing north on the south side of the highway.
Tammy Barry and three of her children were treated and released. According to a spokesman for TRMC, only one of the children was admitted and that was for observation.
