Youth charged with theft


A Tifton man was arrested Saturday on several financial transaction card thefts.


According to an incident report filed at the Tifton Police Department, Officer Joyce Clark took a report of financial fraud on June 17. A 67-year-old woman reported that her South Georgia Banking Company debit card was last used by her on June 14.


She looked for it the next day and was unable to find it. She contacted her bank and canceled the debit card.
The woman said a representative from South Georgia Banking Company called her and said someone attempted to use her debit card to obtain $50 on June 15. However, the offender was unable to obtain any money.


The woman went to the bank and they provided her with pictures of the offender, who is her grandson. Benjamin Chandler Keene, 19, of 2018 Davis Ave. was arrested Saturday and charged with 10 counts of financial transaction card theft.


In another matter, several residents at South College Mobile Home Park on South College Circle reported Monday that someone spray-painted red paint on their vehicles. Some residents reported that their vehicle also received other damages.


Also, a man reported Monday that someone destroyed the locks on the back door of a business located in the 1500 block of South Park and made entry.


Upon inspection, it appeared that someone used an unknown object, possibly a hammer, to destroy the locks on the back door. The subject then stole some items and ransacked the business. The offender also overturned a large glass display.
