Rants & Raves - June 19

To the person who wrote in concerning how much more the federal government spent on Granny and Grandpa at the doctor with Medicare, the last time I checked Granny and Grandpa paid into Social Security for that benefit when they were younger and working! I don't know of any welfare recipient who paid into the system for the benefits they get!  Granny & Grandpa also have to pay for supplemental insurance or pay their 20 percent out of pocket while Medicaid recipients who paid nothing for their coverage pay a $2 copay! I don't know about everyone else but I would certainly rather help pay for an elderly person that worked their entire life and could not quite make it on their own than someone who started out on Medicaid as a young person, never worked, and never got off the backs of hardworking Americans!
The ranter who wrote in about Granny and Grandpa getting to go to the doctor free really riled me up. Do you think it is "free" that I've been paying governmental taxes for over 40 years that are to cover my medical care in my old age?  Is it "free" that I pay property taxes to educate your children even though I don't have any children in school?  Is it "free" that you drive on roads that were dirt when I first started driving and my taxes paid for them to be paved and you now get to enjoy a smooth ride?   We elderly people have paid our way and deserve everything we have prepaid for and we are not going to let our government take it away from us.
To the person who made the statement about Granny on Medicare:  You should be ashamed.  These people pay a premium for Medicare.  It is not free.  Medicare and Social Security is not an entitlement.  The government has collected interest on this money for this all these years. Most of the elderly people still have pride and would not accept food stamps when they were young.  If they didn't work and earn it,  they did not want it.   Be ashamed of yourself buddy.
