TCHS band director resigns

Dante Flowers, Tift County High School band director since last year, resigned this week, says Stacey Beckham, director of Communications for the school system.

"He did resign for personal reasons. We have someone in the interim filling in with the kids. Andy Ballard will be helping out," she said.

Flowers took the helm of the Blue Devil Brigade in July 2012. According to a previous report in The Gazette, Flowers studied jazz piano and was a music educator in Dougherty County before coming to Tifton. While in Dougherty County, he established a band, chorus and piano lab.

Upon his arrival in Tift County, Flowers said he was thrilled and excited to be working with the band because the students had already been exposed to music during middle school. He said he would be a "guide," and that "it's the kid's band."

Flowers also said at that time that he would focus on academic and interpersonal intelligence, and work to "develop the whole student."
