Albert Michael Drexler

TIFTON — Albert Michael Drexler, 73, of Tifton died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with Dr. Fred Evers officiating. His son, Mike Drexler, will give the eulogy. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. Active pallbearers will be Steve Drexler, Matthew Owens, Bryan Carr, Stacey Drexler, Doug Roberts and Paul Tompkins.

Mr. Drexler was born Sept. 16, 1940 in Tifton to the late George Henry and Martha Jane Fletcher Drexler. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Greg Drexler and Stanley Drexler, and two sisters, Rita Drexler and Martha Drexler.

Mr. Drexler was born and raised in Tift County, graduating from Tift County High School in 1963. He was a former ground supervisor at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, where he studied horticulture. He then went to work for the Tift County School System and retired as the director of transportation. After his retirement, he worked as a school bus driver. Mr. Drexler was a private person who loved people. He was known as a man of honor and commitment. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, being outdoors and working in his yards. He was a good cook, especially mashed potatoes. He served in the United States National Guard and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Mr. Drexler is survived by his wife of 49 years, Wylene Lawson Drexler of Tifton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Renee and Ricky Owens of Sumner and Carla Darnell of Tifton; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Christie Drexler of Warner Robins; seven grandchildren, Alex Owens, Ashlee Owens, Bethany Owens, Tori Darnell, Lawson Darnell, Haley Drexler and Holly Drexler; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ben and Clarice Drexler of Orlando, Fla., Charles and Sally Drexler of Tifton and Mark and Jan Drexler of Calhoun; and several nieces and nephews.
