Donnie Lynell Herndon

MOULTRIE — Donnie Lynell Herndon, 89, of Moultrie died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the VA Medical Center in Lake City, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Baker Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memory Gardens with the Rev. Ken Anderson officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Casketbearers are Mark Johnson, Mickey Johnson, Marty Johnson, Josh Okeefe, Donnie Herndon, Greg Hall and Zackary Staller.

Mr. Herndon was born April 5, 1925 in Pavo to the late Jasper R. Herndon and Sallie Elizabeth Prosser Herndon. He was retired from the Army, serving in the Korean War and WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Battle of the Bulge, European Ribbon. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Herndon is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Sandy Herndon of Moultrie; three daughters and a son-in-law, Bonnie Simmons of Colorado, Ervene Herndon of Moultrie and Connie and Larry Johnson of Tifton; grandchildren, Mitchell Simmons, Rachel Simmons, Donnie Herndon, Brittany Faircloth, Mickey Johnson, Marty Johnson, Ashley Okeefe and Mark Johnson; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Clifton Herndon; four brothers; and two sisters.
