Rants & Raves - March 7

TIFTON —

I would like to rant on our community. The Blue Devil Brigade puts in long hours of practice for this community and never gets any notice. When are you guys going to give this band the praise they should get? Why aren’t they ever in the paper?

Hope the folks at Tift County High are paying close attention to the situation at Grady High in Atlanta.

There is definitely a problem with the Dept. of Motor Vehicles when trying to obtain or renew a driver’s license. And the blame does go to Gov. Deal and the legislators that voted for this fiasco of a process. The irony is that we will probably vote Deal and the rest of the people back into office.

OK, its been more than a year since Tift County was officially named after H.H. Tift. It is time to change the county’s webpage that incorrectly states that the County is named after Nelson Tift.

The United States ranks 25th out of 41 industrialized nations in mathematics. Georgia ranks 39th in math education for 8th graders. Common Core's approach to teaching math (constructivism) is not a new concept, it has been around since the 1920's. Hong Kong is consistently at the top of in terms of math education and it's system of teaching is constructivism; therefore, it is not "unproven" like many anti-Common Corers claim.

It is terrible to be in your 60s and be made to feel like you have no value in the workplace anymore. One day you'll be in my shoes and then you'll realize that you still have a lot to offer if someone would just give you the chance....but they probably won't...you're old! What goes around comes around.
