Blue Devils improve upon previous results at state track meet

TIFTON —  It was a day of bests for the Tift County Blue Devils at the Georgia Olympics, the state track meet at Jefferson.

The Devils, who participated in two events, Coach Alonzo Hampton said it was the second best time of the year for the 4x400-meter relay team in qualifying for the finals. They ran the race in 3:20.38, down from the 3:20.68  in the sectional finals. They finished in 7th in the finals with a time of 3:20.54.

Running for Tift was Josh Ajiero, D.D. Walker, Jermarion Billington and Danny Patterson, according to GHSA reports posted from the track. Ajiero subbed for Barry Bennett, who ran in the preliminary race.

It was also a personal best, he said, for Dalton Ellis. He tied for 13th in pole vault, clearing 11’06”. Hampton said he topped his previous mark by a foot.

Hampton said he was already looking at the 2015 state meet for the boys and girls teams. “I think the future’s bright,” he said. “I’m looking forward to next year.”
