Vernon Harlon Tanner Jr.

TY TY — Vernon Harlon Tanner Jr., 53, of Ty Ty, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday in the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty with the Rev. Jim Dugan and the Rev. Chad Hall officiating.  Interment will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

David Gibbs, Keith Beasley, Jim Joy, Sephus Willis, Bo Edenfield and Dan Richardson will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty and Dr. Cameron Nixon.

Mr. Tanner was born Dec. 10, 1960, in Atlanta to the late Vernon Harlon Tanner Sr., and Phyllis Lonsinger Tanner, who survives and resides in Decatur.  He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Willard C. Willis, who died in 2009.

Mr. Tanner had lived in the Tifton area since 1979.  He was a graduate of Towers High School in Atlanta, after which he attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and graduated from Georgia Southwestern University in Americus with a degree in business administration.   Mr. Tanner was the comptroller of Conger L.P. Gas in Tifton.  He loved to cook, as well as serving at his church, singing in the choir and visiting and helping people.  Mr. Tanner was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty where he served as a deacon.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Tanner is survived by his wife, to whom he was married 21 years, Deborah Willis Tanner of Ty Ty; one daughter, Tiffany Brianna Tanner of Ty Ty; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Rick and Theresa Moore of Newnan and Douglas Roger Tanner of Decatur; one sister, Nancy Banner of Atlanta; and his mother-in-law, Carolyn Lockhart Willis of Ty Ty.
